BESTS WINES IN JANUARY: A WINE ROUNDUP FOR EVERY WINE NEWBIE
Another month, another couple of wines tasted. You have to test out these two new wines I tried this January! While most people avoid alcohol at the start of the new year, I’m doing the opposite! In moderation, of course. Here is my January wine roundup for any newbie wine drinker.
If you get stressed having to pick out a bottle of wine, especially if you’re sharing with others or gifting it, then you’re definitely not alone!
This past Christmas, I literally stood at Target in the wine section for 25 minutes, completely overwhelmed with all my options. I had to pick a bottle of wine to bring to a wine tasting contest with a group of like 20 friends who are all well versed in the wine world. Talk about stressed!
The wine I ended up bringing was actually voted the worst bottle of wine out of our group, hahaha oops! More on the home wine tasting contests later so stick around.
But that’s why I’ve made it my mission this year to try new wines and learn more about them.
Obviously we don’t endorse underage drinking or consumption of alcohol while pregnant.
Two wines I tried this January that any newbie wine drinker will like.
1. Bar Dog.
It’s a delicious 2019 California Pinot Noir.
It was a random grab off the shelf at Target, around $13.
I’m learning I really like Pinot Noir’s in general! Maybe when I develop my palette for wine, I’ll dive into more true, dry wines.
This one was a little more dense, had a tiny hint of dryness, and was pretty flavorful. This is one that tasted like it’d be served with a nice meal at a sit down restaurant.
Overall, I rated it a 7/10. And would buy again!
2. Don’t Mind If I Do.
Another 2019 Pinot Noir. I told you I’m really starting to like these!
This one was from Aldi, around $7.
It’s a low sugar, only 85 calorie/glass wine.
This one would be a good one to have on hand if you like to come home and have a glass of wine during the middle of the week. Or are going to have a girl’s night and eat lots of yummy foods.
It’s very light and relatively sweet considering it’s “low sugar”. I would say, it doesn’t exactly have an “expensive” taste like the Bad Dog one I mentioned above.
Overall, I rated it a 6/10.
I’d get it again for a girls’ night.
I know this wine round-up for wine newbies isn’t very long, but these are both great options for any wine newbie!
Leave a comment if you’ve tried either of these before and let me know what you think!
